Time flew by so fast that we’ve now reached the closing brink of the first quarter. Honestly, it could’ve gone by without us noticing because that’s just how busy and dedicated we are with our professions.
Like any other hardworking person, you need and deserve a breather! Escape reality even just for a while and unwind in one of the many beautiful lakes our country has to offer. But before you go on the road, make sure to pack the right things for this special adventure. Here’s a guide to weekend lake trip must-haves!
Quick Weekend Getaway
Take advantage of Saturdays and Sundays and visit some lakes that are only a few towns away from the metro.
Towards the south, you can take a roadtrip to Talisay and San Nicolas in Batangas, trek up a steep terrain for about one hour, and ride a boat into the amazing Taal Crater Lake.
Up north in the province of Zambales, you can enjoy a 4×4 ride through lahar fields and trek some 15-30 minutes more (two hours when it’s not summer) and find yourself in awe of the Pinatubo Crater Lake.
For these kinds of weekend lake trips, you can pack lighter. Since these places are close to home, you can bring:
FOR HER: Old Navy Cami Bra, Printed Run Leggings, and Gray Camo Water Bottle; Springfield UV shades; High Sierra Lumbar Pack.
FOR HIM: Springfield Blue Gradient Shirt, Mustard Shorts, UV shades, Cap, Espadrilles; High Sierra Lumbar Pack
For this trip, dress comfortably. Wear something that’s lightweight, breathable, and flexible. Bring extra clothes, too! Wear a wrist watch as well so you can keep track of time. Seriously, you might get so engrossed with the sights before you that you could forget to eat lunch.
Always bring at least one water bottle to keep hydrated. Aside from a fedora or a cap, bring a pair of sunglasses to cancel out harsh ultraviolet rays. Don’t forget to bring your camera because these lakes are absolutely picture-worthy!
Lastly, of course, bring cash and a first aid kit!
In For The Long Haul
If you think you need to go farther away from the bustling city, set your vacation during long weekends (hey, the Holy Week break is coming up!) so you can make the most out of your trip to the lake.
Go down south and explore one of world’s most beautiful lakes, the Kayangan Lake in Coron, Palawan. Before you can revel in its beauty, you need to climb and descend through steps and wooden walkways for 10 minutes. Once there, you can go kayaking or boating or swimming to your heart’s content on its crystal clear waters.
If you’re in for something a bit more exciting, go farther down to South Cotabato and immerse yourself in the rich culture of the T’bolis, while visiting the breathtaking Lake Sebu. Ride a paddle boat or a dugout canoe and sail through its calm waters to relax. But if you’re in search for something thrilling, ride the longest zip line in the country, which is found in Lake Sebu, and let your breath be taken away by the seven magnificent waterfalls it passes through!
For long weekend travels like these, pack just enough for you to enjoy those several days out of town:
FOR HER: Ecco Yura Black/Night Shade shoes; High Sierra Orange Backpack; Old Navy Run Bra, Yoga Graphic Leggings, Water Bottle, Pouch; Springfield Reversible Fedora Hat, UV Shades; Zara Striped Pocket Blouse; Lush Sunny Day Anti Static Hair Detangler, Sesame Suntan Lotion Sunscreen Lotion, Boom! Gunpowder Toothy Tabs, The Sunblock Solid Sunscreen Wash, Sea Monster Fun
FOR HIM: Ecco Yura Black/Tomato Shoes; High Sierra Weekend Explorer Backpack; Old Navy Water Bottle; Springfield Canada T-Shirt, Mustard Shorts, UV shades; Marks & Spencer Flamingo Shorts, Navy Blue Slippers; Lush Boom! Gunpowder Toothy Tabs
Lightweight, breathable, and flexible clothes are still your best bets because they aren’t just light and easy to pack, but also helps you move around well, especially for physical activities. Bring some extras since you’ll be away from home longer than the usual weekend. And don’t forget your swimwear!
Speaking of swimming, never forget to apply sunblock or anything that would shield your skin from the harsh sunlight. Protect your eyes from the nasty sun rays, too, by wearing a pair of sunglasses.
Of course, you should always remember to bring a water bottle or two to keep yourself hydrated whenever you are out to explore the area. Plus, keep your breath fresh with some mint or anything that could substitute to toothbrush (even for a while) because you might just bump into someone! You’ll never know!
Most importantly, a wad of cash, a first aid kit, and a trusty camera are always must-haves!
